Mookie is a former Major League Baseball outfielder and coach best remembered as the Met who hit the history changing ground ball that rolled through Boll Buckner’s legs in the bottom of the 10th inning of game six of the 1986 World Series, forcing a game 7 that the Mets went on to win and capture the franchise’s second World Series Championship. A switch hitter with excellent speed, his positive attitude and hustle immediately endeared him to the Mets fan base. Although Mookie finished his career with the Toronto Blue Jays he is a beloved member of the Mets organization. In addition to his championship ring with the organization in 1986, Mookie was also the International Rookie of the Year in 1979 as well as enshrined in the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1996.
Mookie’s life off the field is just as exciting as it has been on the field. Mookie is a best selling author, a minister, he's driven big rig trucks, recorded a gospel album and has a catering company with his family. All of these experiences intertwine with his on field career to make him one of the most interesting public speakers today. Whether he is teaching kids the ins and outs of the game on the field or he is speaking at a corporate event in front of hundreds of businesspeople or church groups, Mookie’s stories and lessons leave people inspired and understanding what it takes to make it both the field and in life.
