In Death in the Strike Zone, Thomas W. Gilbert takes on the mystery of James Creighton, baseball’s first star. Gilbert is the author of How Baseball Happened, which won the CASEY AWARD for best baseball book of 2020, Baseball and the Color Line, Roberto Clemente and several other books. He lives in Brooklyn, two blocks from where the Eckford baseball club of Greenpoint played in the late 1850s.
