Boris Kachka is a senior editor at The Atlantic. He is the author of “Hothouse,” a cultural history of the publishing house Farrar, Straus & Giroux, among other books. He was previously editor and writer at the Los Angeles Times and New York magazine. He lives just north of New York City.
